Guatemala is a country in Central America bordered by Mexico, BelizeHonduras and El SalvadorThe handiwork of the Guatemalan people is world renowned. The intricately designed patterns and the exquisite quality of their jewelry and accessories is highly prized. The women of the highland villages of Guatemala learn the traditional beading techniques which they then pass down to their children. They work to earn extra income for their families and in several cases are the sole providers of the household.

Many designs are created using Czech beads, which are known for being brightly colored and uniform in size. The artisans also use colored glass beads and semi-precious stones to create beautiful jewelry, keychains and realistic animal figurines plus much more. Our Capullo Collection is truly unique and beautiful. These bracelets feature a hand-woven base of Czech seed beads, richly embellished with an assortment of glass beads and semi-precious stone chips and have a strong, hidden magnetic clasp.

    Guatemalan Artists

Creating beaded jewelry is a tradition that has been passed down for generations in the highlands of Guatemala. Master bead artists work with other artisans so that they can learn the art and, in turn, be able to earn income for themselves and their family.

Our glass bead jewelry is hand woven by over 150 Mayan artisans in the highlands of Guatemala. Our commitment to the principals of Fair Trade creates avenues of employment for economically disadvantaged artisans in these regions. With your help, we will continue to provide an alternative source of income to the indigenous artisans. These glass beaded bracelets are hand woven by Mayan artisans from villages in the Lake Atitlan area of Guatemala.

These beaded items are some of the most popular items in our Fair Trade collection. The Guatemalan artists we work with are very talented and create some of the most amazing products we have come across.

    Everyone Deserves to Sparkle!

Czech beads are glass beads that are available in a variety of colors and are made in the Czech Republic. Bead making has been a major industry in this region of the world for many years. During the 1st and 2nd World Wars, the bead industry suffered and in 1945 the communist regime in Czechoslovakia nationalized the entire glass making industry. Beads were not considered a part of the official party line. Production declined as a result. It was not until 1958, when the need for hard currency caused the communists to look for goods to export in exchange for cash, that the bead industry began to grow. Today the Czech Republic is making and exporting large amounts of beads and they are once again in the forefront of the global bead market. These beads are widely used to create beautiful and unique pieces of jewelry. Many of the artisans we work with use these beads in their creations. One of our favorite items is the stunning Bola bracelet made by hand in Guatemala. This bracelet is made up of several colors of Czech beads in delicate circular designs and features a convenient magnetic closure. If you are looking for a truly unique and beautiful piece of jewelry you owe it to yourself to check out these amazing bracelets. Matching earrings are also available.

    Traveling in Style

It’s summertime! If you are traveling this summer you should definitely check out this amazing Huipil bag from Guatemala. Perfect size for your carry-on or as an overnight bag. Each one unique and each one beautiful!

We decided to see how our Guatemalan Huipil Overnight Bag would travel during our recent trip to the Caribbean.  We had so much fun and the bag served very well as my carry-on and beach bag during the trip.  From the exotic locations of St. Thomas and the Bahamas to the luxury of the Allure of the Seas cruise ship, this unique bag fit in everywhere.  Letting the overnight bag be the star in the photos was fun and definitely a conversation starter with other travelers.  By the end of the trip we had several people suggesting creative photo ops for us to use.
