Are you tired of passing out all that candy on Halloween? Here is a unique idea that has worked amazingly well in our neighborhood:
We ran out of candy one year – our neighborhood is incredibly busy and we were left scrambling for something to pass out. We had some extra juice boxes and small water bottles so we decided to try that. Much to our surprise, the trick or treaters coming to our house were so excited to receive something to drink! In subsequent years, we usually end up passing out about 300 small bottles of water and at least one or two cases of juice boxes. We do still keep some candy on hand but have found that most visitors choose the water over the candy. Salty items such as chips are also very popular. The kids, and adults, in our neighborhood now count on our house to provide a much needed thirst quencher during a busy and tiring night. We here at lifehearthome.com wish you a very happy and healthy Halloween!

The Internet has truly revolutionized the way most people shop. I, myself, have found that almost everything I would want can be found with a quick online search. Yet, the thing that has always annoyed me is the high shipping costs often associated with purchasing an item online. That is why I am very pleased to announce that LifeHeartHome.com is now offering free shipping on all purchases over fifty dollars.………This promotion is here to stay.
A fun way to learn the alphabet…When my son was young we created an alphabet book for him. For every letter we found items in our home; made special snacks or treats; visited community parks or businesses each starting with that letter. For example, A – we took a picture of my son with apples; baked angel food cupcakes that he frosted with the letter A; sprouted alfalfa sprouts; and visited a neighborhood park named Atlantis. As we went through the alphabet we started getting more creative – visiting bridges, garage sales, stacks of firewood, riding on a train, drinking milk etc. It was a great family activity since each week we had to find a couple of places (parks, restaurants, museums, etc.) that would fit the letter of the week. Now that my son is an adult, he still enjoys turning the pages of his very special Alphabet Book. This Mother’s Day, my kids, now young adults, turned it around and presented me with my own “alphabet book!” It was filled with memories from the past 20+ years arranged alphabetically. Such a beautiful gift!Sign up for our newsletter, Like us on Facebook, Follow us on Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest for more great ideas, stories and just plain cool stuff!
Though the recession is officially over, many are still finding it difficult to find work in this terrible job market. Many have lost their jobs and are looking for things to do to keep their minds busy. I was laid off (“promoted to a non-paid volunteer position”) from my previous job as an office administrator in a small private school. I had been there over 10 years, watched both my children grow up there and had anticipated working there for many years to come. It was a very difficult and emotional time for me. It had been the first time in years that I was jobless and I did not know how to handle it. Not only did I lose my income but also felt disconnected from my friends and the kids at the school where I had been for so many years. Being a creative person, I soon found that little hobbies were the best way to keep my mind busy and fresh with ideas. In fact, it was this enjoyment of hobbies that led me to create the website www.lifehearthome.com. I wanted to create a place where kindness and happiness were of utmost importance yet I also needed to bring in some extra income into our family. This is how I decided that I would sell products that I felt good about; products I would love to give or receive myself. Since I have always loved to travel and learn about other cultures, selling fair trade products from around the world seemed perfect. I wanted to support local artists and also carry items that were “the bee’s knees” as my mom used to say. This is how our store has come to carry our current line of products.
At this time when the job market is so terribly difficult and competitive, it seems appropriate to think out of the box and see where your talents may take you. If you enjoy cooking, perhaps look into catering or specialty gift boxes; if you are great on the computer, maybe learn new social media or web design techniques so that you will look that much more interesting to an employer. I have also come to realize that making connections and networking is more important than ever before. This has been difficult for me as a shy person but when you find a niche that you care about it makes talking to people about your business or interest that much easier. I hope that you all have found a place, job, career or life path that makes you happy and a partner with whom to share that happiness. Come by and browse our store, email us your stories, send us your pictures – we would love to hear from you.
